Basundi used to be a favourite of mine when I was a post graduate student in Madras as it was known back then. There was this restaurant near our hostel that served the most delectable Basundi and whenever we hostellites felt homesick, we would make a beeline to the place and indulge in our favourite dessert for the princely sum of Rs 2.50 only!!! Make it yourself with my easy, shortcut method.

A twenty-first birthday is certainly the time for special, delicious food.  I’ve been waiting for years to celebrate this day.  And we certainly outdid ourselves, birthday girl included.  I took out my various cookery books and went through various recipes and asked Ranita for her favourite foods.

Some time ago I came across this pie recipe which seemed very easy.  Somehow I have never had the confidence to make pies.  This recipe instructed the reader to just throw everything in a blender and dump it into a dish and bake it.  That’s about all I did  (except that I played around with the ingredients)and the result- a golden yellow, astonishing concoction with the bottom like a pudding, the centre like a cake in texture and a crusty, chewy top.
