Black Forest Ice Cream

Black Forest Time

Inspired by Germany’s heavily forested Southwestern region and bearing the same name, Black Forest flavour  is distinctly known for its dark chocolate,  dark cherries and  decadent chocolate shavings. Cherries are quite an iconic stone fruit in Germany.
While shopping over the weekend, I happened to see some lovely cherries and bought them. Took them home and had our weekly indulgence. Sometimes, all you need are a few ingredients to make a heavenly treat.   The first time I had Black Forest Ice Cream was years and years ago. My friends used to drool about it and finally, I got to taste it.  I loved it and went back for more.  When we moved to Malaysia I came across a version that used fresh cherries and started making it myself with various branded ice creams that we bought at the super markets.  It’s the perfect weekend dessert when your craving gets the better of you and when you are feeling too lazy to make it from scratch. The velvety texture, the burst of cherries, and the richness of chocolate will leave you craving for more. Here is my version of Black Forest Ice Cream that uses Vanilla ice cream instead of cream.

Ingredients:

Black Forest Ice Cream
Black Forest Ice Cream

Ripe, luscious cherries ( as many as you like) – wash and dry
Chocolate ice-cream
Vanilla ice-cream

1 tbsp brandy
A medium sized glass

Method:

Layer the ingredients in the glass. I started with 1 tbsp chocolate ice-cream, then 1 tbsp vanilla ice-cream, 1 tbsp chocolate ice- cream and continue until the glass is full.  Drizzle the brandy over and top it with the cherries. This is a dessert that feeds your senses. The best part about making your own ice crem is that you can always go back for more.
