Mulled Wine- A Toast To 2026

Mulled wine will always mean Christmas carolling and welcoming the New Year (after attending the midnight service at St. Mark’s Cathedral, Bangalore), to me. Growing up, my parents welcomed carol singers with steaming mugs of mulled wine and trays of savoury mince patties. It was a ritual we looked forward to every year.

My brother and I were given tiny wine glasses—mine pink, his a warm golden yellow, both delicately rimmed with gold—perfectly sized for seven- and eight-year-old hands. The mince patties were always the highlight: piping hot, deeply savoury, and impossible to resist.

As my father poured the mulled wine, its spiced aroma filled the house, offering comfort against Bangalore’s winter chill. We lingered just long enough to warm our hands and hearts before heading off to the next house, ready for another round of carols and Christmas treats.

Even today, the scent of mulled wine instantly takes me back to those simple, joyful evenings—proof that some traditions age more beautifully than the wine itself.
