Easy Shake Recipes/Easy Breakfast Ideas

#cookwithruth

I fell in love with the concept of shakes years ago and went out of my way to make various combinations at home.  At that time I was an over stressed housewife who was tending to flab and looking for ways to cut my calories.  I was hard pressed for time and was always hungry looking for something to eat all the time.  Then I came across the protein shake.  What a difference once I started!  I stopped my daytime and nocturnal snacking and began to feel very pleased with my self- especially when others noticed the difference.

Shakes are the ultimate way to jam pack as much nutrition as possible into one drink.  It’s so important to have a good source of protein in the morning—like low-fat milk, Greek yogurt, or soy milk—to keep you full and satisfied.

They are a convenient way to increase your intake of protein, which is needed to support muscle growth and a host of other bodily functions.  Protein plays an essential role in muscle growth, repair and normal function, forming enzymes and hormones, transmitting nerve impulses throughout the body and protecting immune function.

During exercise, stress placed on the body results in protein breakdown. Replacing protein after exercise allows muscles to rebuild and recover.

Shakes are a healthy, delicious way to get your fruits and vegetables! They are a great breakfast option and the perfect meal, full of vitamins which will keep you energized and your minds sharp. It must taste amazing for people to drink them! Add your favourite vegetables and fruits and boost your nutritional intake.

I must have made thousands of combinations of shakes over the years.  Here are some of my tried and tested favourites.

Weekend Decadence.

Mango Tender Coconut Pudding

Bottom Layer: Blend 250gms tender coconut, 1/8 cup coconut water and 3 scoops of

Vanilla Soy Isolates. Pour into wine glass. Leave it to settle for 5 minutes.

Top Layer: Puree one mango and pour over the coconut layer. Serve cold with garnish of your choice.

Serves 2.

Green Goddess

Did you know that it’s easier for kids to drink their greens than to eat it? Start with breakfast- 1 medium banana; 1 cup butterhead lettuce; 1/4 cup water; 3 scoops vanilla flavored soy isolates. Blend to a smooth consistency and pour into a tall glass. Garnish with a few chia seeds or nuts. Watch your child finish this delicious breakfast.

Pineapple Delight

A Protein Shake is just the thing your beautiful body needs after your daily workout. Protein helps your body recover and build lean, strong muscle. It also creates hormones that regulate sleep and satiety, keeps your hair fabulous and much more.

Blend together 1 cup pineapple chunks with 1 cup fresh orange juice, 1/2 cup instant oats, 1 cup water, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 10 almonds and 3 large scoops of  Vanilla soy isolates. Get in tip top shape.

Peach Ice Cream- low calorie, sugarless guilt free!
1/2 cup curds ( Indian yogurt)
1/4 cup low fat milk
4tbsp Vanilla Soy Isolates
1 cup tinned peaches
1 tsp organic honey
Blend a ingredients together except the honey. Freeze for 1 hour. Whisk again and freeze again until serving time. Garnish with half a peach and drizzle with honey.

My latest experiments involved the use of liqueurs in my special occasion shakes.  I have to admit they are pretty amazing.

Liqueur Shakes combine the rich decadence of liqueur with the creamy goodness of a shake.   Almost like having a dessert for breakfast.  Did you know that these concoctions are actually quite healthy? It’s true.

Most liqueur shake recipes call for heaping helpings of antioxidant-rich berries, belly-friendly yogurt, and even a little heart-healthy dark chocolate and fruits of your choice.

Eating your fruits and veggies is way better when they taste like dessert .  It’s like having your cake and eating it too.

Apricot Liqueur Shake

1 cup low fat milk; 3 tbsp Vanilla Soy Isolates; 3 dried Apricots soaked overnight and stoned.  Blend  together.  Add 5 dried Apricots, soaked overnight and stoned to the blended ingredients.  Drizzle 2 tbsp of Apricot Liqueur over it and enjoy yourself.  Garnish with the Apricot Kernels.

Try some of these recipes and give me your verdict.
