Lessons From Life

Young, old, tall, short, here, there, friends, family, and strangers — we have experienced this year collectively, together, feet planted on the same planet.

— Jasper Kenzo Sundeen

What a year! Overnight our lives transitioned into “healthy at home” mode as the world came to a halt.

Some of the things I learned

  1. God is in control. When one door closes, another opens. There are angels everywhere. You never know who will step in to help you.
  2. Give relationships top priority. Relationships are the foundation for the future. You never know when your call will come. I lost a good friend some months ago.  My only consolation is that we had a long chat 2 days before he died.
  3. Follow your passion. It will keep you happy. My love affair with food has kept me going and I have made friends from all over the world. Yipee!

  4. Be kind to everyone, including animals.   It takes nothing away from you.  It also makes you feel good.

5. Do not expect anything from anyone.   Expectations when unfulfilled cause pain.  When you get something without expecting it, it gives you pleasure. Depend on yourself. You are the only one you can rely on.

  1. Be adaptable and flexible and tolerant in every area of your life. Adopt a mindset that is prepared for change.  Flexibility and learning to cope is a virtue.
  2. Never ever air your grouses on social media. It has become the trend to post personal triumphs and tragedies on social media.  It’s a dog eat dog world out there.  Not everyone is happy for you.  So avoid ranting on public platforms
  3. Be open to new learning. There’s so much out there that you don’t know. A person who is open to new learning is opening windows of opportunities everywhere.
  4. Learn to trust. We experience joy when we learn to trust.   No friendship or business can thrive without trust.  All bonds are built on trust.  Without it you have nothing.
  5. Be grateful.  Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.
  6. Let go. You are stronger than you think you know.  Unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.  If you want to fly, you have to give up what weighs you down.  It also means the realization that some people are a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny.

For better or worse, 2020 has been an unforgettable, unexpected year, full of experiences.  Looking at 2021 with confidence.  Let’s do the impossible! Make the magic happen! Choose to shine in 2021. Cheers!
