Chickpeas recipe
Chickpeas

Chickpeas have always been a great favourite in our family. As children we would love going to our neighbours houses during Dasara ( An Indian Festival celebrated in October) and eating different versions of it. It was served in disposable leaf cups and we used our fingers to pick up the soft, tasty chickpeas one by one and slowly eat it, making it last as long as possible. Those were such happy , carefree days and whenever I make it at home I go back in time and remember all my childhood friends.

100gms dried chickpeas; 1/2 tsp mustard; 3 sprigs curry leaves; 2 or 3 dried red chillies broken; salt to taste; 1 tbsp grated coconut; 1 tsp oil of your choice.

Soak chickpeas in water to cover overnight. Next day rinse and cook in enough of water till soft. This takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Keep replenishing the water as required. If using a pressure cooker it takes 30 minutes.
