Sugar Plums For Christmas ( Makes 5)

I always had the impression that Sugar Plums were raisins coated in sugar.  Apparently not. They started out as coriander seeds coated with sugar.  It’s so sad to have your childish impressions turn into something else.  Brought up on a diet of Music and Enid Blyton which included the Sugar Plum Fairy, I always dreamt of being transported to a wonderland filled with goodies of all kinds.  It was a real let down to read about the coriander seeds.  Today a Sugar Plum  is a sweet treat made of dried fruit, nuts and warm spices coated in crunchy sugar.  I love the recipe for Sugar Plums that I found on Pinterest and since I make one new Christmas recipe every year, this was it.  This is my version of it.

The Recipe For Sugar Plums For Christmas (Makes 5)

The Ingredients For Sugar Plums For Christmas:

1 tablespoon each of preserved ginger, dried black cherries, cherries (red and green), black raisins, golden raisins, preserved papaya and rum or brandy

1 tsp candied orange peel or orange zest

2 tbsp almond meal

1/4 tsp mixed spice

2 tbsp coarse grain sugar for coating

Method For Making Sugar Plums For Christmas

Gently mix together until you can roll them into balls

Place rest of the ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Combine together until you can roll them into balls.  Roll in sugar and spice and place in a container.  These are so good that I doubt they last longer than a day or two.  It’s very easy to make and you can use your own combination of dried fruits.
