Dragon Salad For CNY 2024

Dragon Salad For CNY 2024
One of the things I really enjoyed during Chinese New Year was the Prosperity Toss Salad or Yee Sang which I experienced for the first time in 1997. We were invited out and we suddenly saw everyone run to a table, grab chopsticks and start tossing the ingredients high into the air. The salad is supposed to have raw fish (marinated in plum sauce) and it tastes really good I am told. I avoided eating it as I am not a fan of raw fish. So I looked for a vegetarian version and came up with quite a few recipes. There is also a DIY YEE Sang available at most super markets and I bought it a couple of times. However, nothing beats making your own and you can use anything you like. This year, I decided to make a simple dragon salad as 2024 is the year of the dragon and share some of my older Yee Sang recipes for those who want to make it the traditional way.
The Chinese New Year is a major celebration not just in China, but all over the world. The marking of the lunar new year brings fireworks, parades, bright lights, and the excitement and hope of a fresh start—something we can all look forward to lately. What’s more, the Chinese New Year also features the fun of the Chinese Zodiac, with signs including, in order, Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. 2024’s Chinese New Year is the Year of the Dragon. Gong xi fa cai! May the Chinese New Year bring you abundance.
