Starfruit Wine Homemade

A Very Happy New Year & Welcome to 2023
I have always enjoyed home made wine and over the years it has become a hobby. My family has this tradition where every year we make grape wine and something new. This time it was Starfruit Wine. I made it last year and when it was ready, bottled it and let it rest until December 2022. The colour changed and it became a lovely golden colour.
The Recipe is like any other. All you have to do is use Starfruits instead of grapes.

The Recipe:

The Ingredients:

Clean 5 litre glass Jar
3 litres boiled and cooled water
1.5 kg ripe star fruit, washed, dried and sliced
750 gms castor sugar ( can add more if required- depends on sweetness of the Starfruit)
Handful of wheat
1 tsp instant yeast – add to 1/2 cup water and leave aside till it froths
1 stick cinnamon

Method:

Add water and sugar to the glass jar. Stir gently with a wooden spoon until sugar has dissolved. Add rest of the ingredients and stir again. Cove the jar with a large piece of cloth and secure with string. Keep in a cool, dark place. Stir everyday with a wooden spoon for 21 days. Strain and bottle. Keep for awhile until the colour changes and the wine matures.
NB: Do not use a metal spoon for stirring as it may change the taste
If you make this now, you might have some good wine for December 2023.
Happy New Year folks. Let’s raise a toast to all the wonderful people out there!
