The joy of baking for me began years ago when my parents went out of their way to bake our birthday cakes. I can’t remember ever buying a cake. Every special occasion meant Bake Yourself Happy and we would anticipate and plan for ages on what to do. A wise person once told me that the secret to achieving my goals and dreams was the pursuit of happiness. For me that was easy- Bake Yourself Happy became my motto, especially when the girls were growing up.
There’s so much personal pleasure in it and it is a fabulous way to make the family feel special. It’s also very therapeutic . It made me focus and be in the moment. Cares and worries vanished and concentration on the task at hand gave me a new perspective on things. Baking is a very creative pursuit and when our girls were growing up I was tested to the limits and beyond. Having a husband who was a very creative engineer was my good fortune and he was the one who measured and shaped. I baked and iced and the girls loved the final outcome as they had the advantage of home made cakes. With every cake, my confidence and expertise grew and I became more and more adventurous as the years passed by. My sense of self accomplishment and self worth increased and today it gives me immense joy to bake for others and see the smile on their faces. At the end of the day,
creating something that others enjoy makes me feel better and boosts my mental health. In short, bake yourself happy.

Here are some of the cakes that started me on my journey- Bake Yourself Happy. For daughter number two Ranita, who is celebrating her birthday today- Bake Yourself Happy.
