Traditional Honey Vegetables/Tsimis

This is a traditional Jewish dish called Tsimis or Tzimmes served at celebrations and important occasions. I have made Traditional Honey Vegetables/Tsimis numerous times. It is usually made for traditional Jewish festivals and one that we absolutely love.

A good friend of mine sent me a tray of roasted vegetables some time ago and I was amazed to see how quickly it vanished. Later on, after I got the recipe, I tried out various combinations. Each and every one of them was  a big success.  The most important ingredients are the honey, the orange juice and the brown sugar.  You can play around with the vegetables mixing and matching to suit your taste.

The Recipe For Traditional Honey Vegetables/Tsimis

The Ingredients:

About 1 kg mixed vegetables I used broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, 2 onions cut into wedges, baby potatoes halved, sweet potatoes cubed, 2 tbsp raisins, 5 prunes, 5 apricots. 1 bulb garlic

1/2 cup orange juice

1/2 cup water

1/8 cup honey

1/8 cup packed brown sugar

1 tsp cinnamon powder

2 tbsp olive oil

Method:

Preheat oven to 350°. In a large greased baking dish, combine sweet potatoes, carrots, raisins, apricots and prunes. Mix orange juice, water, honey, brown sugar and cinnamon; pour over vegetables.

Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover. Bake 30 minutes until vegetables are tender and sauce just about coats the roasted vegetables, carefully stirring every 15 minutes.   Your Traditional Honey Vegetables is ready to be served and devoured!
