Banana Leaf Meal For Deepavali

Deepavali in India is a very big occasion and eagerly awaited the whole year.  Traditionally, a Vegetarian Banana Leaf Menu is served on the day with a variety of sweets and savouries.  Our friends would invite us over for a Banana Leaf meal and it was always an array of Vegetarian dishes served on a banana leaf.  We enjoyed receiving trays of goodies from various friends and neighbours and reciprocated in kind during Christmas.

May your Deepavali be filled with blessings, good health, and prosperity. A very happy and prosperous Deepavali to all!

A typical Vegetarian menu  would consist of an odd number of vegetarian items like the 13 ( my version) below:

 Cashew Rice Pulav

 White Rice

Kadle Curry- Black Chickpeas

Vegetable Cutlets

Vadai

Mangalorean Brinjal Molee

Rejuvenating Vitamin Salad

Cucumber Salad

 Jackfruit Pickle

Mango Ginger chutney

Pappadams

Sweets –( Sago & Tender Coconut Payasa)

Instant Coconut Barfi

If you feel like it you could plan a Deepavali Banana Leaf Menu for your loved ones this year.  Am sharing a few recipes from my blog with you that make up an excellent Banana Leaf Meal.  It may seem a lot of work, but when the whole family joins in, it becomes child’s play and is perfect for bonding together on Deepavali or Diwali.

Usually plain white rice is served along with a special savoury rice. Here is the recipe for Cashew Pulav, a delicious Mangalorean Rice Recipe.
